We’re thrilled to discuss today with Alex her journey in starting a company dedicated to assisting postpartum women, addressing the challenges related to fitness and pelvic health, and helping them regain their strength and confidence. Alex will also provide valuable tips for safely incorporating exercise into post-birth routines. Let’s dive in and learn more about the force behind After BabyFit.
Alex Megan:
Absolutely. After BabyFit primarily focuses on the postpartum period, aiming to help women regain strength after experiencing the physical and mental changes of pregnancy and labor. There’s a notable lack of resources for moms who need physical support, and our mission is to address this gap and empower women. Personally, my journey began after experiencing issues post-pregnancy with my three children. Discovering the transformative power of pelvic floor PT and postpartum corrective exercise led me to earn a personal training certification and specialize in supporting women during this critical time.
Peli Health:
Could you elaborate on the certification you obtained and your journey in more detail?
Alex Megan:
Certainly. I pursued a certification through NASM, the National Academy of Sports Medicine, renowned for its extensive curriculum. However, I found the material on pregnancy and postpartum to be limited, reinforcing the need for specialized knowledge in this area. I also completed a 12-week course with Dr. Sarah Duvall from Core Exercise Solutions. The journey was fueled by my passion to educate and support women facing physical and mental challenges postpartum, such as back pain, hip pain, and pelvic floor weakness, which are often interrelated yet overlooked.
